Enemies march along a fixed path from left to right, and you build defenses by stacking units on a grid above the path. Each unit occupies one grid cell and can be stacked on top of another unit. Height matters: a unit on the second tier has longer range than one on the ground. You start each wave with a budget of placement points to spend on new units. Unit types include archers for single-target damage, mages for area-of-effect splash, and healers that restore health to adjacent units. Enemies have different resistances: armored enemies take reduced damage from archers but are weak to magic, and fast enemies rush past your defenses before tall stacks can target them. Between waves you earn gold to upgrade units or buy new types. The campaign has 60 waves across six maps, each with a different path layout.
